Alain Vassoyan was born in Beirut in 1966, and he still lives and works in the city. Since 1997, he has participated in different solo and group exhibitions between Montreal and Beirut. He is renowned for his three dimensional sculptural installations. In his sculptures, the viewer is initially faced with the innocence of toys and childhood, only to open up later as disturbed and disfigured characters; victims of a transformation both psychic and physical. He has taken part in the “Salon d’Automne” at Sursock Museum and has exhibited at Hyogo Prefectural Museum in Kobe (Japan). He has held three solo exhibitions at Galerie Janine Rubeiz: “Djoudou City” (2009), “Labyrinthe d’Oiseaux” (2011), and “Reconstruire Venus” (2017). The gallery also showcased Vassoyan’s work at Beirut Art Fair (2013 and 2014) and ’Art14 London’ (2014).
