Born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1962, Dinah Diwan lives and works between Paris and Los Angeles. At the break of the civil war, in 1975, she moved to Italy then later to France to join her family.
Trained as an architect, she graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris la Villette. She then founded her architecture studio in Paris where she worked for 20 years.
Her art deploys references to architectural elements: cities / grids / maps / gardens. Since the 1990s, Diwan has been experimenting with paint, creating collages with gestural and calligraphic writing on paper, canvas, fabric, and frosted glass.
In 2018, she was part of the project “Archisable”, exhibited at the Cité de L’Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris. She has also participated in the exhibition “How They Ran” at the Over the Influence Gallery in Los Angeles.
Her first solo exhibition in Beirut, “Wandering City”, took place at Galerie Janine Rubeiz in 2019.
Diwan’s work is represented by Galerie Esther Woerdehoff in Paris, Kimba Hills Gallery in Los Angeles and Galerie Janine Rubeiz in Beirut.
